2018 Week 5 Course 3

The European Union:

Conception, Crisis, Collapse?

Christian Glossner

Week 5

29 July - 4 August 2018

On 25 March 2017, the European Union (EU) celebrated its 60th anniversary. Only a few days later, on 29 March 2017, Britain’s Prime Minister, Theresa May, invoked Article 50 of the EU Treaty to start the so-called Brexit process as a consequence of the referendum of 23 June the year before, when 51,89 per cent of the electorate in the United Kingdom (UK) voted for the UK to leave the European Union. This course is an introduction to the historical political, economic and societal developments of the EU as well as a critical analysis of the causes, consequences and chances of the UK’s exit.
