2018 Week 5 Course 9

Terrorism in the Contemporary World

Mark Radford

Week 5

29 July - 4 August 2018

Today we associate terrorism with Paris, Nigeria and 9/11, but the motivations of terrorists are as old as human conflict itself, although to an outsider often difficult to fathom. Is one man’s terrorist really another man’s freedom fighter? This course will answer that question and many more and identify the common threads that link terrorist movements. It will also outline their development and suggest ways by which we may comprehend and combat them. To facilitate understanding and debate, the focus will be on terrorism after the Second World War.
